Year 1 Homework
In Year 1 we set homework on a weekly basis. It is linked to the children’s learning in class and will consolidate previous topics.
Homework is a good opportunity for you to be actively involved in your child’s education, and to support their progress.
An explanation will be given by us or attached to the homework sheet to give you guidance. Homework is expected to be handed in on the date specified.
We set weekly Maths homework to consolidate that week’s learning.
Children are expected to read at home each night. Every day children are given the opportunity to choose a reading book to take home to develop an enthusiasm for reading. This promotes children’s independence and gives them freedom to choose a book that will engage them.
Each week children are given spellings linked to the phonics sounds we are learning and will also include high frequency words. Children are tested in class the following week.
Sometimes children have the opportunity to create a project on other areas of the curriculum, such as a science experiment or art project.
“I enjoyed doing Maths by myself because it felt good.”
“I like doing well in my spelling test.”
