For children who prefer a quieter playtime, our school pavilion is equipped with games, books and colouring equipment. We have recently installed Play Pods in both KS1 and KS2 playgrounds enabling children to use their imagination and creativity to build and construct from recycled materials. We believe that through play all children are able to flourish and use their creative imagination to be the best they can be. All children should be able to play in an environment that has something for each individual child. We want all children to meet their full potential and become well-round individuals. We believe that through play children are able to learn different skills such as sharing, communication, tolerance, compassion and forgiveness: “Never give up on a friend”. Children are expected to be considerate and respectful to their peers and adults at all times during play time. Play enriches the child’s learning and encourages cohesiveness between all year groups. Playtimes gives children the opportunity to make friends and have fun. Children are encouraged to look after their school playground. This is achieved by a year group rota system so each and every child is involved in this tidying-up process. “I found it hard to make friends when I first came to the school, but playtimes really helped”. All children take part in organised playtimes during the school day. Playtimes are supervised by trained teachers, teaching assistants and lunchtime supervisors. At lunch play, there is a member of staff responsible for organising various games and activities such as netball and football. Members of staff are trained in first aid, and aware of the importance of the safety of each and every child at all times. During extreme wet weather, children take part in indoor play. Classrooms are supervised by members of staff at all times. Children are provided with a large selection of construction games, board games and colouring materials.Playtime
