As you pass by you will see a small Victorian school building with a classic school bell tower. However, unseen to pedestrians is four acres of open green space.

We are fortunate to have:

• a greenhouse/potting shed & pond
• an outdoor learning classroom and dedicated gardening teachers
• a large sports field and cricket pavilion

Our unique, beautiful site means you experience exciting events such as:

• family and class camp-outs
• firework celebrations
• summer & winter fairs large enough to host donkey rides and Christmas reindeers
• fundraising marquee parties (such as auctions, barn dance, even a Bollywood party)

Our calendar of events will be back up and running as soon as Covid-19 restrictions allow.

A strong community

When your child starts with us you become part of our very special school community. We build it around your child and your family through social events and utilising parent’s skills and enthusiasm.

A good example is the school pantomime that we stage each year. Last year’s performance of Camelot involved more than 60 parents, who wrote, directed, stage-managed or performed alongside their children and staff.

Working and learning together

When you visit and walk around our school, there is an undeniable, unifying element: children and teachers who all enjoy working and learning together. Our lessons are creative, exciting and personalised.

There is clear progression in our pedagogy from Early Years through to Key Stage 2 (KS2). For example, Forest School is part of foundation stage and also a specialist subject teaching in KS2. During our last inspection Ofsted said “pupils are significantly above average by the end of Year Two and Year Six.”

High expectations

We set high expectations within a supportive Christian ethos. Our children have the opportunity to represent the school in competitive sport and every child will have learnt a least one musical instrument by the time they leave us. Pupils say that “Everyone is encouraging in all that they do” and “someone is always there for you.”

Our children develop a love of learning, strong interpersonal skills and confidence. They excel in all areas of their learning and are well prepared to join independent and state secondary schools.

St Michael’s CofE school has a special feeling because all the staff, parents and carers, and of course the children cherish and nurture our strong sense of community.
