PSHE & RSE
The main aspects that make up the core of PSHE education are the following: Here at St Michael’s we teach both PSHE & RSE, helping our children to develop and build their emotional health and wellbeing. All PSHE & RSE lessons align well to other subject areas such as science and RE. Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) Our RSE provision is taught using the Christopher Winter Project. This curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge about the physical and emotional changes of puberty, and about reproduction. boundaries and consent. What is Jigsaw PSHE? Jigsaw PSHE is a comprehensive scheme of work that is used throughout St Michael’s. It brings together health education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development opportunities are woven throughout the scheme. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world. British Values The 5 strands of the British Values agenda have been mapped across every Puzzle and every Piece (lesson). We are proud of the way we promote emotional wellbeing for all our pupils through our Jigsaw programme which underpins the whole of our curriculum and our school Christian Values. Please note: you may see elements of SRE reflected in the Jigsaw scheme of work that we use for general PSHE (more information on that below). We do not currently use these, except where they provide supporting materials to help children learn about
Jigsaw contributes, as a good PSHE programme should, to the British Values agenda very significantly, both through the direct teaching of information and through the experiential learning children will enjoy.
